Our Process
How We Create Your Art
Every piece of Ornately Art is a labour of love, combining digital design with traditional hand-crafted techniques. Here's how we bring each sculpture to life:
1. Digital Design
All new artwork begins in the digital realm, where each piece is created layer by layer. We carefully design every element and assemble it in a 3D digital render to ensure the final piece will have the perfect depth and visual impact.
2. Laser Cutting
From the digital design, we laser cut each layer from flat sheets of premium materials — sustainable bamboo plywood for our Classic range and vibrant coloured acrylic for our Aurora Collection. The precision of laser cutting ensures every detail is captured perfectly.
3. Hand Crafting
Classic Range:
Once laser cut, each piece is carefully sanded to create a smooth finish. We then hand-paint each layer using spray paint and stencils to add intricate detail and vibrant colour. Finally, each layer is assembled by hand to create the stunning 3D effect.
Aurora Collection:
Our Aurora pieces are crafted entirely from acrylic (Perspex). Clear acrylic rods are precision-milled to exact lengths and fixed to the backing board. Each coloured acrylic layer is then carefully placed into position by hand and finished in a beautiful clear acrylic display case that protects the artwork while allowing light to play through the layers.
4. Quality Control & Packaging
Before your artwork leaves our studio, it undergoes careful quality inspection. Each piece is then packaged with protective materials to ensure it arrives safely at your door.
Made to Order
Because each piece is handcrafted to order, we typically need 7-10 working days to create your artwork. This ensures you receive a piece made specifically for you, with the care and attention to detail that makes Ornately Art special.
All pieces are designed in-house at our Auckland studio, where we've been perfecting the art of laser cutting for over 9 years.
